Math
The students are loving our Geometry Unit. On Wednesday, we began our study of halves, thirds, and fourths. A great way to reinforce the understanding of basic parts of a whole is using pizza and pie to teach halves, thirds, and fourths.
Writer’s workshop
This week, we ended our study of informational text. I am floored by what the students have produced! In just this past week, the class has written, “How To” Books, “Question & Answer” Books, or “Stories That Teach.” They shared their books with their leap buddies. Next week, your child will be sharing their favorite published book on Seesaw.
Daily 5
This week, we read a text called “The Ox Cart Man.” The students learned that a farmer can be both a producer and consumer and the process a farmer goes through each year. As we come close to two months of school left, your child’s reading log will once again change. During the month of April, I am challenging your child to push him/herself as a reader. Your child will choose a reading strategy he/she wants to set as a goal each Monday. During his/her nightly reading, he/she will demonstrate how he/she used the skill while reading. On Friday, the reading log will be due with evidence showing how he/she used the skill to become a better reader.
We will begin this process next week, that way when they come the first week of April, the students are ready to complete this task independently.
Mystery State
This week’s Mystery State was Michigan! We had quite a few correct guesses!
Congratulations to C.C., Timmy, Helen, Joey, Will, Megan, Ben, Rocco, Sara Jane, and Jack.
Friendly Reminders:
Scholastic Book Order Due - March 24, 2017
Spring Break: Saturday, March 25- Sunday, April 2.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
