Math
This students were assessed on their understanding of place value up to 1,000 today. Our next focus will be studying different types of story problems and a one week “Time Unit.” After the “Time Unit” the kids won’t be asking you what time it is anymore!!!!!
Reading
Last week, we read four different versions of the “Three Little Pigs”. We compared and contrasted one version with the original folktale of the “Three Little Pigs.” This week, we just began reading “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” and the children are already all in on this book! Our focus is “Tune into Interesting Words” and “Inferring the Meaning of Unknown Words.” The students have already learned the following words: torso, ego, derogatory.
Writing
Wow! I wish all of you could reading the writing taking place in this classroom. We have analyzed and studied “Owl Moon” written by Jane Yolen. Specifically, this week the students tried out the craft move, comparisons. When asked to try this craft move out in their writing, I was amazed at the work of the children. I can’t wait for the students to publish another Small Moment story.
This week, the students were introduced to something called “The Zones of Regulations.” There are four zones. Red, Yellow, Blue and Green. The students participated in an activity where each student identified a feeling and had to place it in one of the zones. Over the next few weeks, the students will identify which zone they are in and learn strategies to help them get in the “Green Zone,” the “Ready to Learn” zone. If you would like more information on the Zones of Regulations, I’d be happy send this information to you.
We also read an amazing book called, “My Mouth is a Volcano.” It is about a boy who interrupts adults and other children. It is a wonderful book to read!
REMINDERS:
No School: 11/23- 11/27
Holiday Music Concert is not the last Friday before break this year! It is Friday, 12/16 @ 10:15

A big shout out goes to our room parents and all the volunteers at our Halloween party. It was a splendid time! THANK YOU!
It was a joy to meet with all you at parent teacher conferences this week. I want to thank you for all that you do to support your child at school. Always remember, my door is open for questions or concerns!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kendra Meyers :)
