Reading and Writing
This month we have spent a great deal of time focusing on biographies and non-fiction text. The children are in the middle of researching a famous Black American and writing an expert book on his/her person. Their books will be read on seesaw in a few weeks, keep your eye out for them!
Math
We continue to work on two and three digit subtraction story problems. Key questions to ask your child during a story problem are…
“What do you know?”
“What are trying to find out?”
“Do you know if we have a part/part or a total/part?”
Guide your child to retell you the story problem in his/her own words. If need be act out the story problem with your child. These strategies helps your child comprehend what is being asked and lead he/she to success when solving the problem. This also works with simple equations! Turn equations into stories so the children can comprehend what is happening.
Science
Thank you to everyone who attended our Harmonica Celebration last Tuesday. The children have gained a great deal of knowledge on pitch/volume thanks to John Milan. Don’t forget each child was awarded two free lessons for drum, piano or harmonica with John.
Social Studies
Our Mystery State for the week was Hawaii!
Many students guessed the correct state this week!
Today, your child submitted a Friday letter to you on Seesaw. Each Friday till the end of the school year, your child will be writing a letter to you talking about his/her week and sharing his/her favorite learning from the week. Feel free to comment and write a response to your child! I know each child would love to hear from you!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 2ND GRADE:
Spring Conferences are next week. I am looking forward to meeting with you all and discussing your child’s progress.
Fullersburg Woods - Tuesday, 2/28 @ 10:00-1:00. The students will eat their lunch upon arrival back at Lincoln. Please pack a hearty snack for your child that morning!
