We are so incredibly sad to say goodbye to our awesome student teacher, Mrs. Hendricks. We had a great day celebrating her and wish her the best of luck!
Math
This week, we studied different types of story problems. Specifically, “Separate Change Unknown” and “Start Unknown” problems. If your child is struggling solving any story problem, a helpful strategy is “Math Theater.” Try acting out the problem. Once, he/she solved the problem, read the answer in the story problem and ask your child, “Does it make sense?” Next week, we will spend one week studying “Telling Time.” Now your child will no longer have to ask you, “What time is it?” How exciting!!
Don’t forget to check Seesaw, your child uploaded a story problem today!
Reading
This week, we continued our read aloud “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.” We are loving this book and discussing how Edward is changing as a character. We have focused on the strategy “Inferring the Meaning of Unknown Words.” The students have inferred many tricky vocabulary words, such as pummeled, relieved, grotesque! This strategy will be our focus on the next two week’s reading logs.
Social Studies
Mystery State began this week! The students were so excited and loved researching the clues to figure out our Mystery State. This week’s state was ILLINOIS! Congratulations to Ryan, Sara Jane, Joey, Aidan, Remy, Rocco and Jack on guessing Illinois.
Holiday Party/Holiday Concert
Our Holiday Party will take place Friday, December 23 at 8:30-9:30 am. The party looks like to be a wonderful time!
For Holiday Party each child needs to bring a book wrapped in wrapping paper for a book exchange. The book should be a used and loved book by your child. Have them pick a book they would like to give away because they have loved it so much already! Please bring the wrapped book by Wednesday, December 21st!
The Lincoln Music Concert is scheduled for Friday, December 16 at 10:15 am. Our dress rehearsal concert is Thursday, December 18 at 10:30 a.m. We will watch the 1st and 4th grade classes.
As many of you know, I am the 7th grade Volleyball Coach at Roosevelt. Starting January 4 through March 17 I have to leave every day after school to coach at Roosevelt. Therefore, if you ever would like to chat or meet for a conference please know the morning is the only available time I will have open. I usually arrive at school around 7:15 each morning. Thank you for understanding and your support.
REMINDERS:
Holiday Concert: Friday, December 16 @ 10: 15-10:45
Holiday Party: Friday, December 23 @ 8:30-9:30
Holiday Break - Friday, December 23 @ 2:30
Sincerely,
Miss Kendra Meyers
